For his part, Bad Bunny responded visibly excited:
"Thank you for those words. You know the feeling is mutual, that I respect you very much and that I love you very much. And if at any time I failed in something, I already apologized a long time ago. People don't know, but we had a conversation several weeks ago. We were waiting for the perfect moment to share the stage, and how good it was here in Mexico. Colombia, Mexico, Puerto Rico!" After their words, both artists gave each other a warm hug, which unleashed a great ovation among the attendees, who celebrated with shouts and applause the reconciliation between two of the most influential figures in Latin urban music. J Balvin continued to express his admiration for the Puerto Rican artist: “I am supremely proud of Benito Martínez Ocasio for what he is doing, for what he represents and because he takes Latinos around the world. I know he is a healing and hardworking man, and we always knew he was going to be one of the biggest stars in music.” Why did J Balvin and Bad Bunny distance themselves? In 2022, Bad Bunny and J Balvin, who maintained a close friendship and professional collaboration, distanced themselves after a series of public disagreements, where the singer and rapper Residente was also mentioned, mainly on social media. According to Billboard reports, the conflict intensified when J Balvin promoted a boycott of the Latin Grammys, considering that reggaeton and other urban genres did not receive adequate recognition from the Latin Recording Academy. These statements generated tensions between both artists and provoked various reactions within the music industry.
Other versions indicate that the distancing became more evident in 2023, after the release of Bad Bunny's album "Nadie sabe lo que va a pasar mañana". In the song "Thunder y Lightning", the artist would have directed an indirect message to J Balvin, questioning his authenticity and the way he handles his relationships within the industry. "You have seen me, I always hang out with the same people / While you are friends with everyone like Balvin," says one of the controversial verses of the song. Despite past differences, the recent meeting in Mexico confirms that both artists have decided to put conflicts behind them and resume a relationship marked by respect and reconciliation.
