The play, under the dramaturgy and direction of the experienced Carlos Espinal, is a profound social critique inspired by the life of Julia Pastrana, a bearded circus woman who was exploited and labeled a "freak" due to her appearance. The staging explores, with rawness and sensitivity, the struggle of a woman marked by abuse, pain, and social rejection.Read more: Beethoven's music shone at the National Theater
"La Monstrua" combines classical theater with an anthropological approach to circus phenomena and the marginalization of those who do not fit the canons of beauty. The monologue unfolds after the death of the protagonist, who, trapped between memories of love and violence, seeks justice in a world that condemned her for her difference. Her torment becomes a metaphor for the conflict between essence and appearance. The interpretation of Sabrina Gómez has been described as intense and moving, masterfully embodying the suffering and resilience of Julia Pastrana. Her performance is complemented by the special participation of Miguel Lendor (Papachín), who adds nuances to this production charged with emotions. The production features the general production of Marcos Malespín, under the label of Primera Memoria Producciones & Films, and with the original music by Dante Cucurullo.Tickets on sale
