Santiago de los Caballeros.– The Council of Councilors of the Santiago City Council declared this Thursday as a "Distinguished Visitor" to the Dominican singer-songwriter Juan Luis Guerra, in recognition of his extraordinary artistic career and his invaluable contribution to the international projection of Dominican culture.

The distinction was approved unanimously through Resolution No. 3487-26, during an Extraordinary Session held on February 18, following an initiative presented by Mayor Ulises Rodríguez and submitted to the Council by councilman Leonardo de Jesús Vásquez. During the award ceremony, Mayor Ulises Rodríguez highlighted that the declaration symbolizes the gratitude of the Santiago people to a figure who has elevated the name of the Dominican Republic on the most important international stages. "Maestro Juan Luis Guerra, today Santiago opens its doors to you with respect and admiration. This recognition as a Distinguished Visitor is a demonstration of the sincere affection of a people who are proud of your career, your music, and the dignified way in which you have carried our flag before the world," expressed the municipal executive. Upon receiving the distinction, Juan Luis Guerra thanked for the honor bestowed by the Santiago City Council and expressed his wish that very beautiful things come for Santiago de los Caballeros. The artist indicated that these concerts represent the first of many musical encounters that he hopes to hold in the city during the present year, reaffirming his commitment and affection towards the Santiago public. Furthermore, he delivered a message of faith and hope, declaring his permanent blessing for Santiago and its people. The act of recognition was carried out behind the stage set up for the concerts at the Cibao Stadium. Present were the president of the Council of Councilors, Cholo D’Óleo, Arismendi Dajer, Secretary General of the City Council, and the municipal secretary, Luis José Cruz, who formally read the resolution.
