Who is Brigitte Macron? The woman who went from being a teacher to the First Lady of France

Brigitte Macron, maiden name Brigitte Marie-Claude Trogneux, was born in Amiens on April 13, 1953.

Her parents were Simone Pujol (1910–1998) and Jean Trogneux (1909–1994), the owners of the chocolate shop that was in the family's hands for five generations,​ founded in 1872 in Amiens. Brigitte Macron holds a Master's degree in Arts and a secondary school teaching certificate in French Language and Literature. She began her career in Paris, before teaching at the Collège Lucie Berger in Strasbourg.

He returned to Amiens in 1991, where he taught French and Latin at the Lycée La Providence where he met Emmanuel Macron who attended the literature classes she taught and was also in charge of the theater classes in which Macron participated.

​ Their relationship was not seen as typical by the media, as she is 24 years older, therefore Macron described their relationship as "a love sometimes clandestine, hidden, incomprehensible to many until they know us".

In 2007, she moved to Paris to teach at the Lycée Saint-Louis de Gonzague. She left teaching in 2015.

On June 22, 1974, she married banker André-Louis Auzière (1951-2019), with whom she had three children: Sébastien Auzière (b. 1975), engineer; Laurence Auzière-Jourdan (b. 1977), cardiologist; and Tiphaine Auzière (b. 1984), lawyer.

They resided in Truchtersheim until 1991, when they moved to Amiens. They separated in 1994, divorced in 2006. Then she married Macron in Le Touquet on October 20, 2007.

Political Life

Since 2016, Brigitte Macron joined her husband in the presidential campaign. Emmanuel Macron was elected President of the French Republic on May 7, 2017. She lives with him in the Élysée Palace.

In August 2017, a "transparency charter regarding the status of the spouse of the Head of State" was implemented, as promised by Emmanuel Macron during the presidential election campaign. For the first time, the spouse of the Head of State now has a defined role.

Upon her arrival at the Élysée Palace, Brigitte Macron began to receive extensive correspondence from the French people. She decided to base her work and commitments on the requests in these letters, including better integration of people with disabilities, the protection of children, and the fight against bullying.

In June 2019, Brigitte Macron was elected president of the Foundation Hospitals of Paris-Hospitals of France, which works to improve the daily lives of patients, caregivers, and healthcare personnel.
