Netanyahu blames Hamas for starving the hostages while saying food enters Gaza

Jerusalem.- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu assured late Saturday that, while his country introduces food into Gaza, it is Hamas that "starves" its hostages in the enclave, after the publication by the Gazan militias of videos of two visibly malnourished kidnapped people. "Hamas's cruelty knows no bounds. While the State of Israel allows humanitarian aid to enter Gaza, Hamas terrorists are deliberately starving our people and documenting it in the most cynical and vicious way," the president said in the statement, referring to the videos of the captives Evyatar David and Rom Braslavski.

Netanyahu also accused of "deliberately" starving the population of Gaza, preventing them from receiving aid and creating a propaganda campaign against Israel. "The world's countries must rise up in a clear call against the criminal Nazi abuse of the terrorist organization Hamas," concludes the statement from the president, released by his office. The leader spoke out about the videos released by the Al-Qassam Brigades (the armed wing of Hamas) and Palestinian Islamic Jihad of David and Braslavski. The Al-Qassam Brigades released this Saturday a second video of David (the first one on Friday) in which he shows extreme thinness and in which he asks for an agreement that allows him to return home, as well as for Israel to allow food into Gaza. In the images, the young man appears digging his own grave. In David's video from Saturday, Hamas showed images of Netanyahu assuring, at the beginning of last week, that he would continue to allow a "minimal" amount of humanitarian aid into Gaza in order to maintain his offensive in the Strip. On Thursday night, Islamic Jihad released a video of Braslavski in which, without stopping crying and with a weak voice, he said he was very hungry and also asked for access to food for Gaza. The two are among the 20 presumed living hostages still in Gaza, along with another 30 dead. Hamas usually releases videos of hostages, a tool of psychological pressure on Israel, at critical moments in the negotiations on the ceasefire in Gaza. At this moment they are stalled and the US envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, is in the country to address the situation. The images were also spread at a time when Gaza is suffering a severe crisis due to the famine caused by Israel, which has been blocking the entry of food into Gaza for months. Between March 2 and May 19, the closure was total, while the flow of aid is now very limited. In total, some 170 people have died in Gaza from causes related to malnutrition since October 2023, more than half since July 2025 as a result of this crisis. In addition, more than 1,400 people have died near food distribution points or on roads where they were waiting for food trucks, according to the Gazan Ministry of Health. According to the UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR), most of them have died from shots fired by the Israeli Army.
