Puerto Plata, D.R. – Dominican authorities arrested this Monday Ángel Martínez, identified as “El Detective”, upon his arrival in the country aboard a cruise ship that docked at the port of Puerto Plata. Martínez was being sought by the justice system in connection with several investigations for alleged crimes of extortion, defamation, money laundering, and fraud.
Martínez, of Dominican nationality and a resident of the United States for years, is known for his posts on social media and his YouTube channel, where he disseminated content related to public figures in the political and business spheres.
Processes in the Dominican Republic
According to information from the Public Ministry, Martínez faces several complaints for defamation and insult under Law 53-07 on High Technology Crimes and Offenses. Among the complainants are Congressman Sergio Moya and politician Guido Gómez Mazara, who accused him in 2021 of making public statements that linked them to illicit activities.After failing to appear before the courts in the open proceedings, he was declared in default and arrest warrants and travel bans were issued. In 2024, the Public Prosecutor's Office requested his extradition from the United States and managed a red alert with Interpol.
