Santo Domingo.- The Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte becomes from today the great stage of the Santo Domingo International Book Fair 2025 (FILSD 2025), inaugurated last night at the Eduardo Brito National Theater with the presence of authorities, representatives of the publishing world and a large audience that kicked off the twenty-seventh edition of the country's largest literary event.
The event was led by Vice President Raquel Peña, the Minister of Culture Roberto Ángel Salcedo, the Mayor of the National District Carolina Mejía, and the historian Frank Moya Pons, to whom this year's fair is dedicated in recognition of his extensive work on Dominican history and culture.
In that sense, Peña highlighted the significance of the Santo Domingo International Book Fair 2025 (FILSD 2025) by defining it as a space that reflects the identity of the Dominican people and, at the same time, projects hope towards the future.
For his part, Salcedo highlighted that the FILSD 2025 "is consolidated as a space for citizenship and memory", emphasizing that in its ten days of programming the Plaza de la Cultura will be a "vibrant epicenter of ideas and readings".
He also highlighted this edition's commitment to children's and young adult literature, with areas specially designed for the youngest, as well as innovations such as the Business Room, the Multiplicando Letras program and the strengthening of the Bonolibro.
During the opening, Mayor Mejía also spoke, who agreed in pointing out that the fair constitutes a motor for the cultural development of the country.
For his part, Moya Pons thanked the dedication and valued the importance of keeping the national historical and literary memory alive.
Another highlight of the night was the presentation of the "A Lifetime Dedicated to the Book" award to Isael Pérez Rodríguez, from Editorial Santuario, for his contribution to the dissemination of Dominican literature inside and outside the country.
