Montecristi, R.D. – A group of 20 undocumented Haitian migrants was detained by personnel of the Ejército of the Dominican Republic during an operation carried out in Montecristi province.
Foreigners moved in the early hours of the morning taking advantage of the darkness and hiding in a wooded area of the aforementioned province, trying to evade the La Solitaria checkpoint.
Among those arrested are 13 men and 7 women, who were transferred under military custody to the San Fernando Fortress of the ERD, for the corresponding process.
Army Thwarts Smuggling of 300,000 Contraband Cigarettes on Motorcycles in Elías Piña
Members of the Dominican Republic Army seized 300,000 units of contraband cigarettes and intercepted four Haitian citizens in an operation carried out in the border area of the municipality of Comendador.
The operation was developed after receiving information about an attempt to introduce illicit goods through the rural area of El Valle. Military personnel detected the movement of several motorcycles near border pyramid 191. After surveillance, they intercepted four motorcycles carrying 15 "mamilos" type bags, each with two boxes of Capital brand cigarettes, for a total of 30 boxes. The detainees, along with the motorcycles and cigarettes of illegal origin, were transferred to the Fortaleza La Estrelleta of the ERD in Elías Piña for the corresponding legal purposes.
