Army seizes 59,600 illicit cigarettes hidden in an SUV in Mao

Valverde. - Soldiers from the Dominican Republic Army (ERD) seized 59,600 units of presumed contraband cigarettes and arrested a Dominican citizen in the municipality of Mao, Valverde province. During the intervention, carried out at the Parador Félix, located in front of the municipal cemetery of Mao, the jeep marca Toyota Highlander, black color, license plate G543516, driven by Luis Miguel Ramos Cruz, of Dominican nationality, who was arrested during the operation, was detained. At the time of the arrest, five (5) boxes and forty-eight (48) packs of Capital brand cigarettes were found hidden in different parts of the vehicle, equivalent to 298 packs, 2,980 cartons, for a total of 59,600 units.

The detainee, along with the illicit merchandise seized, was transferred to the headquarters of the 4th Infantry Brigade of the ERD, for the corresponding purposes before the competent authorities. The ERD will maintain operations against the smuggling of goods and the trafficking of undocumented persons, strengthening security throughout the border region.
