The Caribbean Community (Caricom) expressed today its "great concern" about the internal turmoil taking place at the highest levels of the Haitian state at this delicate moment when it is urgently required that the members of the Haitian executive have stability and good judgment in decision-making and that the well-being of the Haitian people be prioritized.
The organization recalled that, in accordance with the provisions of the founding decree of the Presidential Transition Council and the Political Agreement of April 3, 2024, the mandate of the Presidential Transition Council will end on February 7, 2026.
Understand that the current stalemate in Haiti's Presidential Transition Council, following the unsuccessful efforts of some members to remove the Prime Minister, further complicates an already complex government transition process.
"Meanwhile, the Haitian people continue to suffer unimaginable violence and deprivation. This is unacceptable. It is crucial that stakeholders put aside their differences to reach consensus. The CARICOM Group of Eminent Persons remains available to all stakeholders to facilitate agreement among the multiple existing proposals," CARICOM said in a statement published on its digital platforms.
