Santiago. - A coalition of popular, social, feminist, and environmental organizations from the 14 provinces of the Cibao announced this Sunday the realization of a regional strike for 24 hours next Monday, October 27, demanding solutions to multiple problems that, they claim, affect the population.
The spokesperson for the collective, Osvaldo Brito, explained that the decision was made during the XIV Assembly held at the UASD campus in Santiago, where they agreed on actions of struggle in the face of the government's lack of response to the citizens' demands.
Among the main demands cited are the end of blackouts, the reduction of fuel prices and the family basket, access to drinking water, the cessation of police abuses, as well as measures in favor of the preservation of the environment and natural resources.
The leader of Los Peregrinos de Moca, Juan Compres, stated that the protest seeks to paralyze the 14 northern provinces to demand political will in the face of claims that, according to him, have been ignored.
On his side, José Mercado, another member of the coalition, criticized the official indifference to cases of corruption, human rights violations, and the dispossession of land from farmers, which also motivated the call for a strike.
