Customs embarks on a new Institutional Strategic Plan for 2026-2032

Santo Domingo, R.D.- The General Customs Directorate (DGA) began today the elaboration of its Institutional Strategic Plan 2026-2032, in which they will outline the strategic axes and priority projects to be developed in that period.

During the start of the works, the general director of Customs, Yayo Sanz Lovatón, highlighted the importance of all areas of the institution working with common visions and objectives, so that the objectives are developed in the shortest time and with the greatest possible efficiency.

Likewise, he urged each of the sub-directorates and management teams to work towards achieving the organization's goals, while congratulating his team on the results obtained during his management.

He called on his collaborator to work so that, every day, Dominican Customs would be a benchmark for services, efficiency, and transparency.

Sumny Rojas, Manager of Planning and Economic Analysis, highlighted the importance of the institution defining the new projects to be developed until the year 2032, now that the objectives contemplated in the axes of the 2022-2026 Institutional Strategic Plan have been met.

He recalled that, with the guidelines of the Facilitation and Control axis, the entity achieved significant improvements to its risk engine and considerably increased the detection of customs illicit activities.

While, in the Institutionalism and Standards axis, a new Customs Law was achieved and the obtaining of different certifications in ISO standards, both for the improvement of citizen service and for strict regulatory compliance and an anti-bribery system.

Whereas, through the Efficiency and Innovation axis, processes could be simplified and standardized, more than 700 improvements were implemented to the Customs Management System (SIGA), more than 80 services were automated, and X-ray systems could be installed in ports and airports where they did not exist, for the non-intrusive inspection of cargo and merchandise.

The new 2026-2032 Institutional Strategic Plan will have the support of academic Armando Barrios Ross, PhD in Public Policies from the University of Birmingham, and current Dean of Economics and Business at INTEC.
