Indomet: Trough will continue to cause showers, especially inland

Santo Domingo. - According to the Dominican Republic's Meteorology Institute (INDOMET), although this Monday dawns mostly clear in a large part of the country, cloud increases are forecast during the morning towards La Altagracia, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís and El Seibo with showers, isolated thunderstorms and wind gusts that, around noon, will extend to neighboring provinces.

In the afternoon, moderate to heavy showers with thunderstorms and wind gusts are expected towards Azua, La Vega, San José de Ocoa, San Juan, Elías Piña, Dajabón, Santiago Rodríguez, Santiago, Monte Cristi and other neighboring provinces, due to the incidence of the trough and local effects. These precipitations will gradually decrease at nightfall, when they are expected to predominate towards the Caribbean coast.

Tomorrow, during the morning hours, a large part of the country will remain with little cloud cover and only isolated showers are expected towards the Caribbean coast. In the afternoon, a mass of air with less moisture content and a slight concentration of Saharan dust particles, associated with an anticyclonic system, will begin to enter. Due to this, the rains will continue to be reduced towards the southeast and northeast; however, the daytime heating, the slight incidence of a trough aloft and the interaction of the wind with the orography will generate locally moderate downpours with electrical storms and wind gusts, especially towards La Vega, Santiago, San Juan, Elías Piña, Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón and other nearby provinces.

The INDOMET National Forecast Center maintains 5 provinces under meteorological alert level, due to the risk of urban flooding, possible rises in rivers, streams and ravines.
