Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor lead Mets' comeback against White Sox

New York. — The New York Mets relied on sacrifice flies from stars Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor to defeat the Chicago White Sox 2-1 in the first game of a three-game series played this Monday at Citi Field.

The New York team thus achieved its third consecutive victory after a negative streak of six losses in eight matches.

Dominican outfielder Juan Soto tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, while Puerto Rican shortstop Francisco Lindor sealed the comeback with another fly ball in the ninth, driving in the winning run scored by Tyrone Taylor.

Right-handed pitcher Edwin Díaz earned the win (2-0) after pitching a hitless inning, while starter Clay Holmes had a solid outing, allowing only one run and four hits in five and two-thirds innings, with a personal record of 102 pitches.

For the Mets, Soto finished 2-0 with an RBI and Lindor went 4-1 with an RBI. Also standing out were the Venezuelans Francisco Álvarez, who went 1-3, and Luisangel Acuña, who scored a run.

The Mets continue to show signs of offensive recovery and will look to maintain momentum in the second game of the series against Chicago.
