Santiago. – The lawyers of the family of Stephora Anne-Mircie Joseph, the 11-year-old girl who drowned on November 14 during a school excursion at the Los Caballos estate, in Gurabo, denounced this Thursday that the authorities have only delivered recordings from two of more than ten security cameras installed at the scene, and that the received files are not complete. During a press conference, lawyer Shesner Calcaño stated that, despite weeks of insistence, the family spent almost three weeks without access to the evidentiary means and that a formal investigation was only recently initiated. He indicated that the audiovisual material delivered presents characteristics that require an independent technical expertise to verify its authenticity. The legal representatives demanded access to the entire content before, during, and after the tragedy, in order to determine possible responsibilities in the death of the minor, who was participating in an activity organized by the Leonardo Da Vinci school.

Questions about the recordings

Lawyer Miguel Díaz pointed out that there are inconsistencies regarding the whereabouts of the original DVR that stores the complete recordings of the area supervised by cameras. He asserted that, up to now, a clear explanation has not been offered as to why that equipment has not been delivered within the investigation chain. The lawyers confirmed that they have already held meetings with the deputy prosecutor for prosecution, Wilson Camacho, who would have guaranteed them that he directly supervises the raids on the estate and the interrogations of the personnel involved in the excursion. However, they questioned the delay in the investigations in Santiago, which - they claim - only advanced after the public pressure generated by the case. So far, lawyers have had access to the preliminary autopsy report, which confirms that Stephora's cause of death was drowning, as well as some interrogations of teachers who were at the scene at the time of the incident. The family insists on clarifying how the tragedy that extinguished the girl's life occurred and demands that the process proceed with due transparency and speed.
