Cassis, France.- The early hours of Friday were unsettling for the historic French former footballer and former UEFA president, Michel Platini, who was the victim of a robbery at his residence located in the town of Cassis, in the south of France.
According to reports from local media such as *RTL News* and *RMC Sports*, several hooded individuals broke into the estate while Platini, 70 years old, was inside the property. The former player was unharmed, although he reported the theft of more than twenty medals and trophies accumulated during his prestigious football career.
The robbery occurred around 5:30 a.m., when Platini woke up after hearing noises in the garden. Upon observing from inside, he managed to see one of the assailants, dressed completely in black, who fled upon being discovered. However, the criminals had already managed to steal numerous valuables, including trophies and recognitions that the former player kept in a shed in the garden.
It has not yet been confirmed whether the three Ballon d'Or awards that Platini won in 1983, 1984 and 1985 are among the stolen awards. Nor has the total value of the loot been publicly estimated.
The Marseille Prosecutor's Office has not yet issued an official statement, but the authorities have opened an investigation for aggravated burglary. The case has been assigned to the Aubagne investigation brigade.
