Barahona. - A total of 1,020 young people from the Southern region graduated this Sunday within the Oportunidad 14-24 program of the Social Policy Cabinet, in an act headed by President Luis Abinader, who also participated in the stage of the delivery of recognitions to meritorious students.
Tony Peña, Cabinet coordinator, stated the vision that through these trainings, the young people of the Enriquillo region remain in their communities, can find employment, improve themselves and be part of the transformation and advancement of the tourism sector, which will bring dynamism and development to this area.
The young people were trained in 30 Operational Centers 14-24 and belong to 22 Training Routes, from the provinces of Azua, San Juan de la Maguana, Elías Piña, Barahona, Bahoruco, Independencia and Pedernales.
On his part, the director of the Opportunity 14-24 program, Alex Mordán, highlighted that with each new promotion it is demonstrated that second chances transform lives, providing tools to get ahead and contribute to their communities.
Sandra Mercedes Novoa Pérez, a graduate of the Hotel, Tourism, and Gastronomy Training Route of the Vocational School of the Armed Forces and the National Police in Pedernales, in emotional words, thanked the impact of the program on her life and that of hundreds of young people in the region, highlighting that she was also financially supported through government programs to start and establish her own business.
With this graduation, the Opportunity 14-24 program has accumulated more than 24,000 young people who have managed to access educational, technical and labor training, consolidating itself as the main social policy aimed at reintegration.
Inaugurates Police Station in Villa Central, Barahona
The last activity of President Luis Abinader, on his route through Pedernales and Barahona this Sunday, consisted of the inauguration of the Villa Central Police Station in Barahona, to provide a quick response and greater security to the community.
This is how the work and working conditions of police officers are dignified throughout the country with new infrastructure that offers safer, more functional and humane spaces, with areas for citizen attention, warehouses, kitchen, bathrooms, separate bedrooms for men and women and jails.
The president of the Presidential Commission for Support to Provincial Development (CPADP), Ángel de la Cruz, indicated that the basketball court in the Blanquizales sector was also completely renovated, a space that gives children, young people and adults in the area the opportunity to practice sports and share in community in a dignified and safe environment.
