Asunción.- A total of 37 women were murdered in Paraguay in 2025, mostly by partners and ex-partners, in events that left 69 orphans, according to a report from the Open Data program of the Public Ministry.
The document gathers reports accumulated until December 29th, during this year 55 cases of attempted femicide and 34 cases opened this year for that crime were recorded.
The victims, the official information added, were between 11 and 80 years old; Four of them were under 17 years old.
The average age of the aggressors was between 16 and 80 years old, and of the total victims, 36 were of Paraguayan nationality and one of them was Brazilian.
According to the report, 27 of the deceased were mothers and, regarding the relationship of the aggressor, 24 of them were partners of the women and seven were their ex-partners. In addition, among those accused as aggressors there is a stepfather, a son-in-law, a former son-in-law and three acquaintances of the victims.
In most cases, bladed weapons (14) and firearms (10) were used. Seven of the deaths were caused by asphyxiation, four by trauma or blows, and two by severe burns, and it was also revealed in the document that 27 deaths took place in homes and 10 on public roads.
