Azua. – Residents of various neighborhoods in the municipality of Azua reported an alarming increase in robberies in recent weeks, a situation they attribute to the scarce police presence on the streets. Faced with this situation, the population is calling for the urgent intervention of local authorities and the central government.
Complaints have been expressed through radio programs, phone calls, and social media posts, where citizens demand an immediate response from the National Police in the face of the wave of crime affecting the area. According to the complainants, the lack of patrolling has generated a climate of fear both during the day and at night, especially during this month of December, a period in which they claim a "wave of robberies" has been unleashed, keeping the population in distress. You can also read: FHL asks for Dominican support to release Cuban political prisoners
Many citizens have preferred not to reveal their identity for fear of retaliation, but they agreed that the most affected neighborhoods include Los Parceleros, Simón Strider, La Cuchilla, El Hoyito, La Colonia, La Bombita and Pueblo Abajo, as well as the Azua–Finca 6 and Las Yayitas roads, as well as the Quisqueya I and II sectors, among other points in the urban area. Finally, residents called on President Luis Abinader to take urgent measures to help curb the growing wave of crime that, they say, has sowed panic in the head municipality of Azua during the last two weeks.
