Port-au-Prince.- Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé announced that he will mobilize the State to quickly restore the electricity supply in the country, after 11 days of total blackout due to the paralysis of the Péligre hydroelectric plant, located in Plateau Central, in central Haiti.

"Faced with the prolonged interruption of the electricity supply, due to the closure of the Péligre hydroelectric plant, the population of Port-au-Prince is suffering serious consequences," the head of government acknowledged in a press release published on his Facebook page.

Fils-Aimé stated that action will be taken with "firmness and diligence", for which he has convened an urgent working meeting with the Minister of Public Works, Transportation and Communications, as well as with the General Director of the State Electricity of Haiti (EDH).

On his X account, the president of the Presidential Transition Council (CPT), Fritz Alphonse Jean, said that, after lengthy discussions with the population of Plateau Central, the body is committed to ensuring the proper functioning of the hydroelectric plant, the country's main one.

"También exponen (los ciudadanos) claramente la difícil situación que viven en la zona. Les hemos escuchado y les hemos entendido", afirmó.

The CPT and the Government will meet to give a "clear" response that benefits the population.

"We take this opportunity to ask the population to protect everything that the State creates for the well-being of the country. And Péligre is one of them," added Fritz Alphonse Jean.

At the beginning of last week, Electricité d'Haïti (EDH) announced in a statement the shutdown of electricity generation, due to the Péligre hydroelectric plant ceasing to function after being invaded by members of the population to demand that the authorities resolve the insecurity prevailing in their region.
