Omar Fernández: “It would be a dream come true to see my father as a presidential candidate”

Santo Domingo. - The senator of the National District, Omar Fernández, reaffirmed this Tuesday his support for his father, former president Leonel Fernández, as the presidential candidate of Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) for the 2028 elections, despite recent polls positioning him as the favorite.

"For me it will be a dream come true to see my father Leonel Fernández as a presidential candidate for Fuerza del Pueblo," Omar Fernández expressed when approached by journalists in the National Congress.

Regarding the results from the polling firm V&R, which place him above his father in electoral preference, the senator emphasized that, for him, family values are above any political aspiration.

"For me, above the polls are family values; what my father believes will always come first in anything that crosses my mind. My father always comes first," Fernández maintained.

These statements arise in a context where various polls show a growing popularity of Omar Fernández as a possible presidential candidate. For example, a poll by RCC-Cachicha revealed that 73% of respondents prefer Omar over his father as the FP presidential candidate for 2028.

Despite these results, Omar Fernandez has reiterated on multiple occasions his desire to see his father back in the presidency.
