Santo Domingo. – From the early hours of this Sunday, several sectors of the Caribbean and Northeast Atlantic coast have registered isolated showers, as a result of wind drag and the incidence of a trough that continues to affect the national territory, reported the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET).

According to weather reports, provinces such as Samaná, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez, La Altagracia, La Romana, and San Pedro de Macorís have been impacted by occasional rains. These conditions are expected to extend momentarily towards the Greater Santo Domingo and San Cristóbal during the course of the day.

In the afternoon, the interaction of local effects (heat, humidity, and orography) with the trough will favor more significant cloud cover, moderate to heavy showers, isolated thunderstorms, and wind gusts in inland regions, as well as in some sectors of the northern part of the capital. The trough will continue to affect from the early hours of Monday, generating rains and possible thunderstorms, mainly in provinces of the northeast and the Caribbean coast, including Samaná, María Trinidad Sánchez, Duarte, La Romana, La Altagracia, San Pedro de Macorís, Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Peravia, Barahona and Pedernales.

During the afternoon, rainfall is expected to move towards inland areas such as Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Santiago, Azua, Independencia, Santiago Rodríguez and Dajabón, gradually decreasing at night.

Hot weather and recommendations

Despite the rains, the environment will continue to be very hot, so the meteorological authorities reiterate the call to the population to stay well hydrated, wear light-colored clothing and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. It is reminded that children, the elderly and people with pre-existing health conditions are especially vulnerable to high temperatures.
