"On the Guachinte bridge, a cylinder that has just detonated was identified, with serious victims who are being treated in the hospital and three deceased people. The emergency situation is being addressed right now," stated the mayor of Jamundí, Paola Castillo. The mayor said that another explosive was detonated in the Potrerito sector, "near the Police station", leaving five people injured who were treated at the Piloto Hospital, as well as "three explosive devices without material damage or injured people in the urban area". "We emphatically reject the act of violence and these recent events that affect the tranquility in our country and our region," he concluded. The attacks in Jamundí, a municipality located on the outskirts of Cali, occur hours after three bombs exploded in different neighborhoods of this city, the capital of Valle del Cauca, leaving at least two people dead and 36 injured, 22 of whom were taken to different hospitals and clinics. In several municipalities of the neighboring department of Cauca, there were also bomb attacks and harassment today by illegal armed groups that left five dead, two of them police officers. The Minister of Defense, Pedro Sánchez Suárez, attributed the attacks to the dissidents of the FARC led by Néstor Gregorio Vera, alias 'Iván Mordisco' who operate in the southwest of the country. "Criminals from the dissident groups of alias 'Mordisco' attack the population with indiscriminate terrorist attacks in Cauca and Valle del Cauca. This is a crime against humanity. Their actions denote that they are not interested in the peace, tranquility, and well-being of the peasants and the entire population," stated the minister. Sánchez added that the "only objective" of that illegal armed group is to "generate terror, destabilize the institutional order and seriously and mainly affect the civilian population, in order to continue living from drug trafficking and illegal mining".
