Santo Domingo.- The lawyer Máximo Miñoso, representative of German Peña Jorge one of the victims of the tragedy of the Jet Set, revealed that he will not appeal the coercive measure dictated against Antonio and Maribel Espaillat, and stated that he expects a good decision in the end when the case is brought to trial.

"The issue is a decision of the judge and that is her power, I am one of those who requested a coercive measure with imprisonment because of what had been seen in the process of contact with some of the witnesses and that could influence, in the end what is required is a good decision on the merits of the case", stated the jurist regarding the criticized measure of the judge Fátima Veloz. In that regard, he said that they will not directly appeal the measure but will support the appeal of other parties, however, he said that they hope that the Public Ministry will make progress in the investigations. "For us, with the amount of evidence there was, we understood that there was no need to declare this complex case, but due to the number of victims, it really meets the characteristics," added Miñoso. In his speech, Máximo addressed the importance of approving the new Criminal Code in accordance with current criminal classifications. "It is a necessity," he pointed out.

It is recalled that the head of the General Directorate of Prosecution of the Public Ministry, Wilson Camacho, announced that the Public Ministry will appeal the coercive measure imposed on the brothers Antonio and Maribel Espaillat, accused of involuntary manslaughter after the collapse of the Jet Set disco, a tragedy that occurred on April 8th, which left 236 dead and more than 180 injured. The court ruled for a travel ban, periodic reporting, and a financial guarantee of "50 million pesos" against Antonio Espaillat and for Maribel Espaillat.
