Formula One: Sainz will lose five grid positions in Mexico due to the incident with Antonelli in the US

Sports writing (EFE).- Spaniard Carlos Sainz (Williams), who had to retire on Sunday - after touching, while trying to overtake him, with the Mercedes of young Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli - from the United States Grand Prix, the nineteenth of the World Championship of  Formula One, was penalized with the loss of five grid positions in the next race, the Mexican Grand Prix, which will be held next weekend at the Hermanos Rodríguez Autodrome in the Mexican capital.

Sainz, 31 years old, with four victories and 28 podiums in the premier category - who had been third in the sprint on Saturday - was called to testify by race direction after the race held at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin (Texas), where hours later the sanction of the Madrid native was made public, to whom the stewards considered responsible for the incident, which occurred on the seventh of the 56 laps that were given to the American track.

Penalty

The Madrid native was trying to snatch, at the time of the incident, the seventh place from the Italian debutant -19 years old-, who was able to stay on the track, but did not go beyond thirteenth place. In a race won by the quadruple world champion, the Dutch Max Verstappen (Red Bull), who heated up a World Championship led by the Australian Oscar Piastri (McLaren) -fifth in the US- with a 14-point advantage now over his teammate, the Englishman Lando Norris -second on Sunday- and with 40 over the sports idol of the Netherlands.
