On the Caribbean coast, operators of fragile, small and medium-sized vessels are advised to remain in port due to abnormal winds and waves, as well as the occurrence of heavy showers and thunderstorms. In addition, bathers and beach users are urged to consult local authorities before engaging in water activities, due to the possibility of breakers and rip currents. On the Atlantic coast, vessels may carry out their operations near the coastal perimeter, but without venturing out to sea. Today, weather conditions will continue to be quite deteriorated, due to the effects of tropical storm MELISSA, which would maintain the elevated risk of severe flooding and landslides. On Saturday, MELISSA would be moving slowly over the Caribbean Sea, gaining latitude while gradually strengthening, therefore, we will continue under conditions of high risk of severe sudden and/or gradual flooding, as well as landslides over a large part of our nation, due to the rainfall that will occur for prolonged periods and of strong intensity in a large part of our territory that will be generating this tropical system. The areas where these conditions will be most noticeable will be those towns located in the northeast, southeast, southwest and the Central mountain range, that is: María Trinidad Sánchez, La Vega Monseñor Nouel, Samaná, Duarte, Sánchez Ramírez, Hermanas Mirabal, Espaillat, San Cristóbal, San José de Ocoa, Monte Plata, Peravia, Azua, San Juan, Independencia, Bahoruco, Pedernales, Barahona, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, La Altagracia, El Gran Santo Domingo, among others. Heavy to torrential downpours are expected, which will be more frequent in towns in the northeast, southeast, southwest and the Central mountain range. Weather WARNINGS and ALERTS remain in effect due to imminent flooding that could become severe in the coming days. Recommendations on the Caribbean coast to remain in port. On Sunday, we will continue under favorable conditions for rainfall, thunderstorms, and wind gusts to continue, the intensity of which will depend on the scenario that presents itself, based on the different projections resolved by numerical models. These range from intermittent rain between moderate to locally heavy, mainly towards provinces of the Caribbean coast, the southwest and southeast, being less frequent towards the Central Mountain Range and the northeast; to heavy and torrential downpours over the Caribbean coast, the southwest, southeast and northeast, especially during the morning and afternoon with thunderstorms and intense wind gusts. We suggest paying attention to the next bulletins.
