Mayor of El Seibo: "The Bullring enhances our culture"

El Seibo.- The mayor of El Seibo, Leo Francis Zorrilla, highlighted the value for the enhancement of the culture of the Dominican Republic that the Bullring has, which is being built in this demarcation with an investment of more than 3.7 million pesos. "Significantly, this square comes to be a symbol, not of El Seibo, but of the Dominican Republic, because in the Caribbean and Latin America there is no square like this, this comes to uplift our culture and our history," said Zorolla during the tour that the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, made this Sunday to supervise the progress. The work is scheduled to begin operating the first week of December under the administration of a board of trustees. According to the mayor, it will be composed of governmental institutions and civil society of El Seibo.

They clarify they do not support animal abuse

One of the main characteristics of the bullfights in this province is the "Portuguese style" in which the bulls are not mistreated and there is no bloodshed. Faced with the rejection of animal rights defenders for this activity, Zorrilla explained that "here the bovine is not sacrificed, here the animal is not mistreated, this is a spectacle where the animal is better cared for." Finally, he pointed out that they are protected by the Animal Protection Law and that is why they have received support from important institutions in the development of their patron saints' festivals and bullfights, which are intangible cultural heritage of the Dominican Republic. In addition to the mayor, Minister Collado was accompanied by the governor of El Seibo, Magaly Tabar, and other personalities from this province, who valued the economic and cultural impact of the infrastructure demanded more than 100 years ago.
