Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader confirmed this Monday that personnel from United States will be stationed in specific areas of the Las Américas International Airport (AILA) and the San Isidro Air Base, in compliance with the bilateral agreement that authorizes logistical operations in Dominican territory.

The president's clarification came after being questioned about reports indicating the transfer of equipment and supplies to both facilities. During the exchange with the press, he was directly asked if the recent movements of US aircraft corresponded to the installation of logistical camps at those points.

“That information is correct and is part of the agreement we signed, where it is clearly established that they would be at those two airports,” Abinader replied. In recent days, there has been an increase in U.S. military flights to AILA and San Isidro to transport materials and equipment for personnel who will operate in the approved camps. The Government had announced the plan on November 26, explaining that the agreement allows the use of delimited spaces for refueling, transfer of equipment, and temporary presence of North American personnel, all under the supervision of the Ministry of Defense and the National Directorate of Drug Control. The Abinader administration has insisted that the deployment has a "technical, limited and temporary" character, aimed at reinforcing air and maritime surveillance against transnational organized crime. Although the presence of US aircraft has been evident in recent weeks, the president stressed that the operation focuses on the installation of logistical camps and not on a permanent increase in flights in the country.
