Certificates are awarded to women deprived of liberty at the Rafey Women's Correction and Rehabilitation Center

Santiago. – The Community Technological Centers (CTC), in coordination with the Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR) Rafey Mujeres, delivered 120 participation certificates to inmates who satisfactorily completed the training programs offered in the Digital Room of said penitentiary facility. During the ceremony, they received their certificates of participation in the Design and Sublimation, Office Package, Introduction to Computing, and Digital Awareness programs, a total of 40 women from the Rafey Women's Halfway House program, 70 men from the CCR Rafey Men's program, and 10 participants from the Licey Halfway House, all belonging to the province of Santiago. The event was led by Rebeca López, director of the CCR Rafey Mujeres; Isidro Torres, general director of the CTCs, the vice mayor of Santiago Mariana Moreno, as well as representatives of the regional office that coordinates technological training in the penitentiary centers. Facilitators, technical staff, and members of the multidisciplinary team responsible for the training process were also present.

Nelson Núñez, in charge of Technological Training for the CTCs, reported that the new training plan for the year 2026 was launched, which will cover the centers of Rafey, Licey and Moca. Said plan includes, for both men and women. From her side, director Rebeca López thanked for the opportunity that the CTCs provide to strengthen the skills of the inmates. She highlighted that these trainings represent a fundamental tool so that, upon regaining their freedom, they can access decent jobs and build life projects based on the knowledge acquired. The general director of the CTCs, Isidro Torres, valued the opening of the CCR Rafey Mujeres to promote educational initiatives within the penitentiary system and reiterated the institution's commitment to social transformation through technology. "President Luis Abinader has demonstrated a firm and consistent commitment to bringing technological training to all corners of the country, especially to vulnerable communities and people living in dissimilar conditions. “From the Community Technology Centers, we assume that vision with responsibility, convinced that digital education is a tool for social transformation and a real opportunity to open paths of inclusion and development,” expressed Torres. He added that the inmates who took the different training actions will allow them to access digital use and technological tools with equity, contributing to their social and labor reintegration, Digital Room modernized. The CTC recalled that they recently delivered a fully renovated and equipped Digital Room to the CCR Rafey Mujeres, designed to reduce the digital divide and facilitate access to technological tools that enhance the learning, creativity and personal development of those deprived of their liberty. Since 2020, the Community Technology Centers have strengthened their presence in the country's penitentiary centers, including the CCR Licey al Medio, Rafey Mujeres and now seeks to impact the Moca penitentiary center, reaffirming its commitment to high-impact social training programs aimed at full reintegration.
