Switzerland declares five-day national mourning after deadly bar fire

The Swiss government has declared five days of national mourning following the devastating fire that occurred in a bar in the alpine town of Crans-Montana, local media report. The President of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin, announced that flags will fly at half-mast in the capital, Bern, during this period. Parmelin expressed that "a tragedy of such magnitude should not happen again." The declaration of mourning marks an official response of grief and solidarity in the face of one of the greatest recent catastrophes in the country.
