Nelson Arroyo is appointed Director General of Customs

Santo Domingo.– The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader appointed Nelson Arroyo as the new Director General of Customs, through Decree No. 3-26, as part of the recent changes made in the government to strengthen strategic areas of the State.

Arroyo served during the period 2020–2024 as president of the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel), an institution from which he promoted initiatives related to the regulation and modernization of the telecommunications sector. He is a native of the municipality of Moca, Espaillat province. The new head of Customs holds a doctorate in Law from the Universidad Central del Este and is the founder of the law firm Arroyo & Asociados. In the political arena, he has an extensive career, having been elected councilman of San Pedro de Macorís in 1998, civil governor in the year 2000, and deputy to the National Congress for three consecutive terms, from 2006 to 2016. During his legislative management, he chaired the Accounts Chamber commission and was a member of the Justice Commission, in addition to serving as a spokesperson for both the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) and the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) caucuses.
