The Ministry of Energy and Mines reported that, in relation to the mining exploration project located in the provinces of Puerto Plata and Santiago, no significant findings have been made so far, nor is there any intervention or exploitation plan in the Septentrional mountain range, and specified that the work carried out has been exclusively of an exploratory nature.
The entity assured that, regarding that exploration concession granted in July 2024, the present administration currently has no plans to favor mining exploitation in that area of the country.
He emphasized that, during October of last year, airborne geophysical tests were carried out and that, according to the technical reports sent to the mining authority, the results were not satisfactory for identifying economically interesting deposits, so no progress has been made towards any development or exploitation phase.
The institution explained that mining exploration processes constitute a technical, normal, and regulated practice, aimed at knowing the presence, characteristics, and potential of mineral resources in a given territory. These activities do not imply exploitation nor authorize the commercial extraction of minerals.
In that sense, Energy and Mines detailed that the exploratory phase is limited to geological, geophysical and geochemical studies, technical surveys and scientific analyses that allow a preliminary assessment of the viability of an area, always under the supervision of the Dominican State and in strict compliance with Mining Law No. 146-71 and the General Law on Environment and Natural Resources No. 64-00.
He reiterated the commitment to responsible, transparent, and respectful management of the environment and communities, ensuring that all activities related to the country's mineral resources are carried out under the highest standards of institutional supervision and in strict adherence to the legal framework.
