Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (AERODOM), concessionaire of the Las Américas International Airport, clarified that the new terminal project is progressing according to the agreed schedule and in strict compliance with the Concession Contract.
This is in response to the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, who warned that the Government is willing to go to court if the company Vinci Airports, through Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom), does not begin the construction of the new terminal of Las Américas International Airport (AILA), as established in the concession contract.
However, the company explained that the large-scale project, in accordance with standard international practices, includes preparatory and essential technical phases. While these stages are not always visible on site, they are fundamental to ensure efficient and uninterrupted construction.
"The works are currently in progress. Activities began in June 2025 with key preliminary tasks, including technical studies, area clearing, obtaining permits, demolitions, and the necessary land adjustments to enable the start of major construction, which will intensify according to the planned schedule," Aerodom indicated.
He also said that they maintain an open and respectful dialogue with the authorities and reaffirms their commitment to deliver a world-class terminal within the established deadlines, backed by the technical and financial strength of VINCI Airports.
It is recalled that in November 2023, President Luis Abinader announced the renegotiation of the Aerodom concession contract, which was signed in 1999 because it did not generate benefits for the Dominican State, in addition to the fact that it "did not guarantee the best conditions in airport infrastructures."
The agreement contemplates an investment of $830 million for improvements in the 6 concessioned airports, including the Las Américas International Airport - José Francisco Peña Gómez and other variable contributions estimated between $300 and $550 million.
