Santo Domingo. – President Luis Abinader responded this Monday to the statements of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, who rejected the exclusion of Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela from the next Summit of the Americas and announced that she will not attend the event.
During his meeting with the press at La Semanal, Abinader said: “I will respond with the same words as President Claudia when she was asked about the Nobel Peace Prize, and she said: ‘no comment’.”

The Dominican president avoided going into detail on the matter, but stressed that the Summit of the Americas maintains its commitment to the three D's, dialogue, democracy and human rights.
Abinader's stance comes after Sheinbaum described the exclusion of those three Latin American countries as "unacceptable," a position that has generated various reactions in the region.
During her morning press conference at the National Palace, the president was blunt in declaring: "No, I will not attend."
He explained that his decision is due both to differences with the country exclusion process and to the need to address internal affairs of his government.
Sheinbaum also indicated that her administration is still evaluating whether Mexico will have any representation at the hemispheric meeting. "That's what we're looking at, to see if someone from the Foreign Ministry could go," she specified.
The Summit of the Americas, convened for the end of the year, seeks to bring together heads of state and government from the continent to address issues of development, migration, democracy, and regional cooperation. However, the decision to exclude certain countries has once again generated diplomatic tensions in the region, as occurred in previous editions.
