SANTO DOMINGO, RD.- The Minister of Public Works and president of the Airport Commission, Eduardo Estrella, reported this Monday that the members of said organization have been summoned for this Tuesday, with the aim of knowing in detail the report of the technicians of the Airport Department on the failure that occurred in the electrical system of the Las Américas International Airport, José Francisco Peña Gómez (AILA).
Estrella explained that the meeting seeks to establish the level of responsibility of the concessionaire company Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom) in the prolonged blackout registered during the weekend, which affected air operations and caused inconveniences to thousands of passengers.

The official also expressed his solidarity with the passengers and citizens who were harmed by the suspension of services. He stressed that the country needs guarantees of reliability in airport infrastructure and that this type of incident should not be repeated. The electrical failure recorded at the AILA lasted for almost nine hours last Sunday, which caused delays and cancellations of flights, in addition to generating discomfort among the users of the terminal. Hours later, in the early hours of Monday, a second interruption of service occurred, which Aerodom attributed to a scheduled outage to replace a generator.
