Santo Domingo. – President Luis Abinader confirmed that the Dominican Government received an official request from Venezuela to resume commercial flights between both countries, suspended since July 2024.
However, he clarified that the reopening has not been approved, as the communication will be carefully evaluated by the Dominican authorities. You may be interested in: GIGANTIC ABSTENTION IN VENEZUELAN ELECTORATE
“They made their unilateral decision. Now they send us this communication that barely arrived yesterday. We are studying it. I repeat: it was a unilateral decision by them and now they make this request to us,” expressed the president during his usual meeting with the press, La Semanal.
It is recalled that this past Saturday, the National Institute of Civil Aeronautics of Venezuela (INAC) reported the resumption of flights to the Dominican Republic, as well as to other destinations in the region. However, the announcement was made publicly before there was a formal coordination with the Dominican authorities. The original suspension was imposed by Venezuela in July 2024, following the Dominican government's critical stance on the presidential elections held in that country. Since then, direct flights were canceled and diplomatic relations cooled.
