Santo Domingo.- The Fourth Instruction Court of Santo Domingo East postponed the preliminary hearing against Ana Josefa García Cuello, accused of decapitating her 6-year-old daughter in the Hainamosa sector, until September 2.

Magistrate Mary Berenita Gómez Jiménez was also scheduled to hear a special procedure of non-imputability, but the hearing could not be held because the defendant was not transferred from Najayo-Mujeres prison, where she is serving pre-trial detention. García Cuello's lawyer, Joanquicito Bocio, criticized that the penitentiary agents of the General Directorate of Penitentiary and Correctional Services (DGSPC) did not transfer his client, which made the hearing impossible.

Bocio explained that he submitted to the court a medical expert report that establishes that his client suffers from paranoid schizophrenia since childhood, and requested that she be declared not guilty by reason of insanity and transferred to a specialized health center. "The clinical picture she presents is acute schizophrenia with paranoid traits, and her condition worsens every day while she remains in prison," he pointed out. It should be remembered that García Cuello, a doctor by profession and a member of the Dominican Republic Army, was arrested in the act on August 15, 2024, after the incident at his residence in Santo Domingo East.
