Some showers and a sweltering heat wave are expected today.

Santo Domingo. - The Dominican Republic's Meteorology Institute (INDOMET) indicated that during the morning hours, local showers (passing rains) will occur over San Pedro de Macorís, San Cristóbal, and Greater Santo Domingo.

While for the afternoon, we expect the occurrence of some moderate to heavy showers, thunderstorms and wind gusts, over La Vega, Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón, Valverde and Monte Plata, due to the wind drag from the east/southeast plus the effects of a trough aloft. In the evening, local showers with isolated thunderstorms will be generated in La Altagracia, La Romana, Santo Domingo and San Cristóbal.

Tomorrow, Friday, the trough will move away from Dominican territory, with a sunny, hot, and mostly clear environment prevailing throughout almost the entire country, due to the influence of an anticyclonic system. However, during the afternoon, as a result of orographic effects, daytime heating plus wind drag, local showers with isolated thunderstorms will occur over La Vega, Azua, San Juan, and Santiago Rodríguez. In Monte Plata and the northern part of Greater Santo Domingo, isolated showers with thunderstorms will be occurring.

Regarding temperatures, they will remain high, with a warmer thermal sensation, due to the time of year (summer) and the warm and humid wind from the southeast. It is important that the general population drink enough water to stay hydrated, wear light-colored and light clothing, be in cool and ventilated places, avoid receiving direct sunlight between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. In addition, keep in mind children, the elderly and people more susceptible to suffering the effects of these high temperatures.

Cyclonic activity in the Atlantic basin, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico:

Due to its geographical position, evolution, and development, we are closely monitoring an area of showers and thunderstorms associated with an active tropical wave, located over the easternmost part of the tropical Atlantic south of the Cape Verde islands, which maintains a low probability of 40% of reaching tropical cyclone status in the next 48 hours. However, for the next 7 days, atmospheric conditions look favorable for gradual development, with a medium probability (around 80%) of reaching tropical cyclone status.

National District: sky with slight cloud increases and some isolated showers.

Santo Domingo Norte: sky with slight cloud increases and some isolated showers.

Santo Domingo Este: sky with slight cloud increases and some isolated showers.

Santo Domingo Oeste: sky with slight cloud increases and some isolated showers.

Temperatures: the minimum will be between 22 °C and 24 °C and the maximum between 33 °C and 35 °C.

Summary: A trough will generate local showers with thunderstorms and isolated wind gusts, especially inland, during the afternoon, such as in Santiago Rodríguez, La Vega, San Juan, Dajabón, among others. Temperatures will remain very hot.

For Saturday, we anticipate the arrival of a tropical wave, which will favor, from morning hours, cloud cover increases with local showers from weak to moderate, in provinces such as La Altagracia, La Romana, El Seibo, Hato Mayor and Monte Plata. In the afternoon, rainfall will increase, being in the form of showers between moderate and heavy, with thunderstorms and wind gusts, in San Pedro de Macorís, Santo Domingo, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Sánchez Ramírez, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez, Samaná, Santiago, among others.

National District: Local showers, with thunderstorms and isolated wind gusts, in the afternoon.
