Santo Domingo. - The Dominican Republic's Meteorology Institute (INDOMET) indicated that during the morning hours, local showers (passing rains) will occur over San Pedro de Macorís, San Cristóbal, and Greater Santo Domingo.
While for the afternoon, we expect the occurrence of some moderate to heavy showers, thunderstorms and wind gusts, over La Vega, Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón, Valverde and Monte Plata, due to the wind drag from the east/southeast plus the effects of a trough aloft. In the evening, local showers with isolated thunderstorms will be generated in La Altagracia, La Romana, Santo Domingo and San Cristóbal.
Tomorrow, Friday, the trough will move away from Dominican territory, with a sunny, hot, and mostly clear environment prevailing throughout almost the entire country, due to the influence of an anticyclonic system. However, during the afternoon, as a result of orographic effects, daytime heating plus wind drag, local showers with isolated thunderstorms will occur over La Vega, Azua, San Juan, and Santiago Rodríguez. In Monte Plata and the northern part of Greater Santo Domingo, isolated showers with thunderstorms will be occurring.
Regarding temperatures, they will remain high, with a warmer thermal sensation, due to the time of year (summer) and the warm and humid wind from the southeast. It is important that the general population drink enough water to stay hydrated, wear light-colored and light clothing, be in cool and ventilated places, avoid receiving direct sunlight between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. In addition, keep in mind children, the elderly and people more susceptible to suffering the effects of these high temperatures.
Cyclonic activity in the Atlantic basin, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico:
Due to its geographical position, evolution, and development, we are closely monitoring an area of showers and thunderstorms associated with an active tropical wave, located over the easternmost part of the tropical Atlantic south of the Cape Verde islands, which maintains a low probability of 40% of reaching tropical cyclone status in the next 48 hours. However, for the next 7 days, atmospheric conditions look favorable for gradual development, with a medium probability (around 80%) of reaching tropical cyclone status.
National District: sky with slight cloud increases and some isolated showers.
