Santiago. – The executive director of the National Institute of Potable Water and Sewers (INAPA), Wellington Amín Arnaud Bisonó, denounced this Monday in La Semanal that several areas adjacent to the Yaque del Norte river were being used as drug consumption points, which also contributed to the contamination of the tributary.
"We found people injecting drugs, one alone and another older one injecting another, in front of people, in front of families. That happened here, folks, because there are many people who don't know what's happening in the Dominican Republic," stated Arnaud Bisonó during his intervention in Gurabo, Santiago.

The official reported that, as part of the sanitation and control actions, more than 30 drug points have been eliminated in the areas near the river. He also recounted an episode where a backhoe operator resisted demolishing a drug point in the local park until he finally agreed. With these actions, INAPA seeks to protect the water quality of the Yaque del Norte River and guarantee safer spaces for the surrounding communities, while combating drug use and trafficking in the region.
