Tehran.- The Supreme National Security Council confirmed this Tuesday that a ceasefire has been reached with Israel, proposed by US President Donald Trump, and which it described as a defeat for the Jewish State.

The highest national security body in Iran stated that "a ceasefire has been imposed on the Zionist enemy" in a statement reported by Iranian media, in Tehran's first official reaction to the cessation of hostilities.

He asserted that the country's "warriors' struggle" and "wise leadership" have "forced the enemy to lament and accept defeat and unilaterally halt its invasion."

At the same time, he stressed that the Army remains prepared to respond to Israeli aggressions.

"The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, without the slightest trust in the words of the enemies and with their finger on the trigger, will be ready to give a decisive and regrettable response to any act of aggression by the enemy," the note indicated.

The Supreme National Security Council described the last 12 days as a "bloody struggle" in which the Persian country responded to "each aggression in a timely and proportionate manner."

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a ceasefire lasting 12 hours, shortly before the scheduled start time: around 04:00 GMT on Tuesday, 07:00 in Israel and 07:30 in Iran.

For its part, the Israeli government said in a statement that it had accepted Trump's proposal for a "bilateral ceasefire" with Iran after achieving its objectives in 12 days of war, but warned that Israel would respond "firmly" to any violation of this agreement.

Several hours after the ceasefire began, the Israeli Army reported the detection this Tuesday of a new missile attack from Iran that sounded alarms in northern Israel.

Iranian state television denied launching missiles against Israel, shortly after the Israeli government announced the acceptance of the ceasefire agreement with the Islamic Republic.
