Sources from the Ministry of Security of the province of Buenos Aires confirmed to EFE that a person died after being hit by the wave on the beach of Santa Clara del Mar, a tourist town located 386 kilometers south of the Argentine capital. Local media reported that the fatality is a young tourist who hit rocks after being swept away by the waters. "There is a deceased person. The support teams from the Ministry of Security are already working with the family of this young man who lost his life," said the director of Civil Defense of the province of Buenos Aires, Fabián García, in statements to the C5N channel. Due to the phenomenon in the sea, the causes of which are still unknown, another 35 people were affected, although with minor injuries. "We have a person who had a cardiac problem, very possibly due to the stress of the event, who is under observation, out of danger. There are no other people hospitalized," García specified. The beaches throughout the Mar Chiquita district - to which Santa Clara del Mar belongs - were evacuated as a precaution. In the neighboring city of Mar del Plata (400 kilometers south of Buenos Aires), unusually large waves were also recorded.
