Sweden advocates for "tough" countermeasures to US tariffs if no agreement is reached

Berlin.- Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson advocated this Saturday for continuing to seek a negotiated solution to the war initiated by the U.S., but warned that the European Union (EU) is willing to respond with "harsh" countermeasures to the 30% tariffs announced by President Donald Trump starting August 1st on community products. "The Swedish government regrets the US decision and supports the European Commission's (EC) willingness to continue seeking a negotiated solution," wrote the head of the Swedish government on the social network X.

Kristersson recalled that, if it is not possible to reach an agreement, the Twenty-Seven are willing "to respond with tough countermeasures if necessary". "But everyone loses with an escalation of the trade conflict, and it will be American consumers who pay the highest price," emphasized the Prime Minister of Sweden, who stressed that the Nordic country defends free trade and international cooperation.
