Abu Dhabi, UAE.– British driver Lando Norris, from the McLaren team, was proclaimed this Sunday new Formula 1 2025 world champion after finishing in third position in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the last race of the season held at the Yas Marina circuit.

The race was won by the Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull), four-time world champion and monarch of the last four editions. The Australian Oscar Piastri, Norris' teammate at McLaren, finished second to seal a resounding result for the papaya team. With 26 years old, Norris becomes the eleventh Briton to conquer a Formula 1 world title, managing to dethrone Verstappen himself and closing the championship with 423 points, just two more than the Dutchman and thirteen above Piastri.Race Highlights

Reactions to the new champion
Visibly emotional, Norris called the achievement "incredible and surreal", noting that it is a dream he had pursued "for a long, long time."Norris debuted in Formula 1 with McLaren in 2019 and has also celebrated with them the constructors' world championships of 2024 and 2025. With his first world title, the British driver closes a historic season for McLaren and for Formula 1.“In a season there are always ups and downs, but nothing matters if you end up winning. And I have achieved it with an incredible team, with whom I have been for seven years”, he expressed from the podium, where he was interviewed by his compatriot and former world champion Jenson Button.
