Ángel Martínez will be presented today before the District Attorney's Office for a hearing on default.

SANTO DOMINGO. – The communicator Ángel Martínez will be presented this Tuesday before the Fiscalía del Distrito Nacional to attend a hearing related to the lifting of the declaration of rebellion against him, according to his lawyer, Carlos Mesa.

During a telephone interview on the program El Sol de la Mañana, Mesa indicated that, although the exact time has not yet been defined, the hearing will take place during the morning. He explained that his client is already being transferred to the corresponding jurisdiction and that the process is expected to be carried out without setbacks.

"Mr. Martinez is in good spirits and told us last night that he was unaware of the specific reasons for his detention, which explains some of the statements he has offered recently," Mesa said.

Likewise, the lawyer pointed out that Martínez managed to establish communication with the United States Embassy and the State Department, who —he assured— are aware of his legal situation in the Dominican Republic.

Detention in Puerto Plata of Ángel Martínez

Ángel Martínez was arrested this Monday by the Dominican authorities after arriving in the country aboard a cruise ship that docked at the port of Puerto Plata. According to official information, the communicator was intercepted when he was trying to return to the ship after having published a video on social media in which he claimed to be “without problems” on national territory.

Arrest warrants are pending against Martínez for alleged accusations of defamation and extortion, which is why legal mechanisms were activated as soon as his presence was detected in Dominican territory.
