Raquel Arbaje backs Faride Raful against defamation: “She made the right decision”

Santo Domingo. – The First Lady of the Dominican Republic, Raquel Arbaje, expressed her support for the Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, who announced legal actions against the recent defamations against her.

“We are in a democratic country and we respect freedom of expression, but when a person's life is damaged, that can affect us all,” Arbaje stated when approached by members of the press.

The First Lady emphasized that Raful has acted correctly by resorting to legal means to defend her integrity, and quoted one of the official's statements: “A click does not erase what was said”, alluding to the permanence of reputational damage in digital environments.

Arbaje's statements come after the publication of a video by Faride Raful herself, where she announced that her legal team will proceed against the attacks and accusations spread on social media. In these publications, the former Minister of Culture, Milagros Germán, is also mentioned.

For its part, the Ministry of Women qualified the attacks as an act of political violence against Raful and reiterated its rejection of this type of aggression directed towards women in positions of power.
