Mbappé: "I vote for Dembélé"

Paris, June 7 (EFE).- French forward Kylian Mbappé said on Saturday that he would vote for his national team teammate Ousmane Dembélé to win the Ballon d'Or, although he acknowledged that "there is talk" of the Spaniard Lamine Yamal as well.

"Would I vote for Dembélé? Yes. I don't think I need to explain it. There's talk of Lamine Yamal and Dembélé, I vote for Dembélé. It's very clear," said the Real Madrid player at the press conference of the French national team prior to the match for the bronze medal of the Nations League this Sunday against Germany.

Mbappé clarified that in recent years there is no clear winner, "that players who were barely talked about have won", that "things change very quickly" and that "many things will happen between now and September (the date on which the award is presented)".

The Madrid striker, who has won the Golden Boot as the top European goalscorer, was among the candidates to win the Ballon d'Or, an award in which he was sixth last year after having been third in 2023.

After being reluctant to choose between Dembélé and Mbappé as his favorite for the Ballon d'Or, last Wednesday the coach, Didier Deschamps, finally chose the PSG player: "I support Ousmane 100 %."

The campaign for the former Barcelona player to win the trophy has been launched, with Lamine Yamal as his main rival.

The Club World Cup that will begin next week in the United States can give points to the Frenchman, since Barcelona of Lamine Yamal is not in that competition.

The Ballon d'Or will be awarded in a ceremony in Paris on September 22nd, when the successor to the Spaniard Rodri will be announced, who won it last year ahead of Real Madrid players Vinicius and Jude Bellingham.
