Santo Domingo. - Drivers and passersby on El Progreso Avenue, which connects the San Isidro Highway with sectors such as El Almirante and Hainamosa in Santo Domingo Este, lashed out this Thursday against the management of the mayor Dio Astacio and the authorities of the Ministry of Public Works for the visible deterioration of the important road.
According to testimonies from people who travel the road daily, for more than two years this section has remained in total abandonment by the authorities, despite the repeated complaints and claims of the residents, who demand a prompt intervention to improve their conditions and guarantee safe circulation.
A driver from the Almirante route expressed that so far "they have only made Ayantes", but they have not made a definitive solution possible to avoid traffic jams and that the vehicles are affected.

"Please fix the street for us, everything in the vehicle is wrecked. It's been like that for about 3 years, they come and do a patch job," said the driver, indicating that they will have to resort to methods such as a strike to make their outcry heard. Likewise, other interviewees lashed out at Astacio's management for not taking the corresponding actions for the benefit of the residents of this demarcation. "Mayor Dio Astacio, he doesn't know that with that (said with his ID in hand) we put him in and with that we are going to remove him again," pointed out the driver of a truck. "This is terrible, this has been a disaster, here they throw a little bit of dirt and we're back to the same thing, nobody listens to this," affirmed another driver. The deterioration of El Progreso street affects the quality of life of residents, mobility, access to services, and may increase the risk of damage to vehicles and accidents. In that sense, they desperately ask to be heard and for the paving of this road to be immediately arranged, which serves to decongest traffic and reduce time for those heading towards the Ramón Matías Mella highway and other nearby areas.
