Santo Domingo.– The spokesperson for the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) in the Chamber of Deputies, Gustavo Sánchez, questioned this Tuesday the actions of the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE), considering that its decisions respond to the interests of the government and focus exclusively on the activities of the opposition party.
“The TSE and other state bodies are clearly at the service of the government. They only have eyes for the PLD, while ignoring the early campaigns of officials from the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM),” expressed the legislator.

Sánchez's statements come after the TSE ordered the provisional suspension of the PLD Central Committee meeting, scheduled for Sunday, June 8, 2025. At that meeting, the pre-candidates for the presidential nominations would be defined with a view to the internal process of that organization.
Despite his criticisms, the deputy assured that the PLD is a political force that respects the institutions of the State. “Disobedience cannot be expected from our organization,” he emphasized. He also informed that the party will meet this Friday to evaluate the scope of the high court's ruling.
In response to the TSE's measure, ruling party deputy Eugenio Cedeño also expressed his disagreement, considering that the decision violates the autonomy of political parties. "There is a clear difference between the public promotion of aspirants and the internal processes of defining candidacies. As long as the law is not violated, the parties have the right to organize internally," said the PRM legislator.
