Lawyers of Antonio Espaillat arrive at the Courthouse

Santo Domingo.- At 10:40 a.m., the lawyers of businessman Antonio Espaillat, implicated in the tragedy at the Jet Set nightclub, arrived at the Palace of Justice. The legal team is made up of lawyers Miguel Valerio Jorge, Jorge Luis Polanco, and Ramón Núñez. Espaillat was transferred last night to the jail of the Palace of Justice, as part of the investigation into the collapse of the roof of the aforementioned nightclub, an event that caused the death of 236 people and left more than 180 injured.

Authorities also confirmed the detention of Maribel Espaillat, sister of the businessman and administrator of the nightclub, who is in a hospital. According to the Public Prosecutor's Office's accusation, both Antonio and Maribel Espaillat would have incurred an "immense irresponsibility" by not taking the necessary measures to prevent the collapse, despite being aware of the structural risks of the property. It is expected that the coercive measures requested by the Prosecutor's Office will be known in the coming hours.
