Opposition Senator for the National District, Omar Fernández, attended the accountability session in the National Congress, hoping to hear when the salary indexation will be applied.
The legislator hopes that the issue of wage indexation will be addressed and a definitive date for its application can be set, in favor of hundreds of thousands of Dominican workers.
However, upon entering Congress, he indicated that he prefers to listen to the accountability report that President Luis Abinader will offer, to elaborate on that and other issues that he hopes will be addressed.
The wage indexation proposal consists of exempting from taxes those salaries below RD$52,000 monthly, due to the accumulated years of inflation and as established by the law itself, however, it has not been applied since 2017.
The initiative received the support of the two main Dominican trade union confederations; Autonomous Syndicalist Classist Confederation (CASC) and the National Confederation of Trade Union Unity (CNUS).
The initiative filed in November 2025 before the Senate of the Republic, urges the Executive Branch to comply with the provisions of article 327 of the Tax Code, relating to the indexation for inflation of workers' salaries.
